Mountain Biking Activities / Excursions

The thing I like about mountain biking is that you can really go over some BIG obstacles, sometimes very easily. And I am not even that good at it! Plus, riding UP stuff is such an excellent workout. A little bit hard on my knees, but that's what Glucosamine Sulfate is for, eh? And coming DOWN is such fun! Well, let's be honest, it can be a huge adrenalin rush! But a Good, Clean, Natural rush (for those of us who live on the fearless side of life). I will include (soon) somewhere on my site, various downloadable free GPS tracks for some of my favorite trails.

Slickrock Bike Trail
Slickrock was my first real Mountain Biking experience ever. That is, I rented an actual mountain bike and went on a real mountain bike trail.  I own a commuter/hybrid/city bike - in between a racing bike and a mountain bike.  I have practiced with it a lot, but I was not Ready for Slickrock Bike Trail!
Slickrock is a very difficult and famous zone to challenge any skill level.  So I tried the 2-mile practice area first & even there I hurt myself.  Then I did the 10-mile loop in 100 degrees Fahrenheit at mid-day!  What a nut!  Yeah, you gotta try it  :-)   Very fulfilling to finish it.  Well,  that is,  IF you make it back in 1 piece.
Baby Steps & Klondike Bluffs
The Baby Steps bike trail was quite painful for me also.  First,  I hurt myself quite badly the day before on Slickrock.  Secondly, not being a mountain biker,  and having biked super-hard the previous day,  oh my bottom hurt so bad...  Every time I sat I regretted it.  I wanted to make it to all the long,  remote single-track sections.  But when I took a wrong turn and came back on the shorter,  easier trail (ie. Klondike Bluffs),  well I had to chalk it up to divine compassion leading me home before I became permanently damaged.  LOL
welcome to North Trail
Photo from start of North Trail in Vail. High ride.  Ending this one was strange, because I had to ride the bike back to my car on paved roads & bike trails, on basically level ground. Somehow this short section was more exhausting than riding up the mountains. Is it because full-suspension MTB's are inefficient on roads, or because the energy of exploring nature was not flowing through me? Well, you go out there and try it & report back your theories to me.   :-)
boneyard bike trail
On Boneyard / East Eagle trail  I had limited time because I had to get the bike back to the rental place.  So I had to go fast, but no harm in that! It is in between the mountains & the desert.  I thoroughly enjoyed this trail, because after a hard day biking the previous day,  I was ready for some fun but not overwhelming activities. You start out on the Boneyard trail and come back on the East Eagle trail and it is a blessedly short ride back to your vehicle.

The only little drawback about mountain biking is trying to transport your own personal bike halfway around the continent or the world. So I will try not to spend too much on this particular toy, since you end up renting them anyways.

Well, if you are a mountain biker, I hope there is some way for you to tell me if you liked this page. Until then, thanks for checking it out!
